I had the wonderful opportunity to read, cook from and review, Whitney Miller’s newest cookbook, New Southern Table. One of the things that drew me to reviewing this book was that Whitney Miller was one of the winners of the tv show, Master Chef.  I have enjoyed watching several seasons of Master Chef and was thrilled to be able to cook some of the recipes.

You can watch the video of what I thought about the book and see a few of the recipes that I tried and how they came out when I cooked them.

What do I love about the book?

  • I love that it is hardcover with a dust jacket and it’s not a HUGE book. It is approximately 7″x9″.
  • I also love that the paper is a heavier, glossy type of paper. It’s the type of paper that you could lightly wipe off with a slightly damp cloth if you accidentally spilled on the book.
  • The pictures are AMAZING!
  • The recipes are really based on whole foods. There are not a lot of canned or prepared ingredients in the recipes.
  • After using the book for a few weeks, it stays open fairly well which helps when I’m cooking in the kitchen.

What don’t I about the book?

  • Some of the recipes used more “exotic” ingredients and ones that I don’t normally have on hand
  • The average serving size was for four people and that is a little bit on the small side for our current family.

All in all, I really enjoyed the book, the several recipes that I made out of it and it has earned a spot on my cookbook bookshelf.S3460019S3460027
