I had the unique opportunity to review Jenn Thorson’s newly released e-book, God’s Word In My Heart.  This simple book contains some very helpful ways to incorporate memorizing scripture in our every day lives as well as a list of verses for memorization.

This book has been thoughtfully put together not only for adults but for children as well.  For the first half of the book, there are ideas and suggestions for teaching scriptures to children, starting with babies and toddlers all the way to high school.  There is also a resource list of titles and web sites were you can get music with scripture to help aid in memorization.

I personally am a musical person by nature and find that it is much easier to memorize when words are set to a tune rather than just attempting to memorize from repetition.  As a mom of four kids, I have seen the benefits of having scripture with music just playing in the background of our home.  Even when you yourself are not really listening to the words of the music playing, frequently our children are listening and picking up the words.  I don’t know how many times my children have surprised me by reciting some lyrics that they had listened to recently.  The resource list of music, both free and purchased is a great addition to this book.

Jenn Thorson has gone beyond just providing a basic resource list though. She has provided the title and name of the album for most verses that you will be memorizing. Therefore, eliminating all of the work that you would need to do to find matching music for the Bible verses.

When I was working through this book, I did not print out the verses and put them in a binder as she recommended.  I downloaded the e-book and put it on my reading device. I was happy to be able to have her book readily available to me.  She has made it convenient for studying the verses by putting three small check boxes underneath verse.  This can help you keep track how well you are doing with memorizing the verses. There are a set of ABC verses which I think are great for kids, but also verses about sin and God’s grace.

As a mom, I believe that this book could be a very helpful for any family just starting out with scripture memorization.  It has been arranged very thoughtfully and can be used in your family devotions or even in the home school setting.

You can purchase this newly released book at The Purposeful Mom for only $3.99!
