Ingredients

Beef Patties

  • 2-3 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 lg egg
  • 2-4 tbsp butter or bacon grease
  • 1/3 cup Flour
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper

Brown Mushroom Gravy

  • 1 lg onion diced
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 8 tbsp butter split into 4oz chunks
  • 2 cups fresh mushrooms chopped
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups strong beef broth
  • pinch salt and pepper
  • 2 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 splash Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Mix ground beef with salt and pepper and 1 large egg; shape into generous size patties

  2. Mix flour, salt and pepper on a small plate. Dredge beef patties and make sure they are evenly coated with flour mixture

  3. Melt butter or bacon grease in large skillet and heat over med/high heat until pan is hot.

  4. Add patties and cook about 2-3 minutes per side. You want to sear in the juices and make the outside nice and brown. You may need to work in batches

  5. Remove patties from pan and place in crockpot

  6. Add onion to skillet after the patties have been seared. Cook for 5-7 minutes until golden brown.

  7. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute

  8. Add 4 tbsp butter to onions and garlic, and then add mushrooms. Cook another 5-7 minutes until all liquid is evaporated and the mushrooms are golden brown

  9. Add 4 tbsp butter to onions and mushroom and add 1/3 cup flour. Cook for about 1 minute, making sure everything is evenly coated with the flour

  10. Slowly add the beef broth, carefully scraping up the brown bits from the bottom of the pan

  11. Add salt and pepper to taste, thyme, balsamic vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir and cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes

  12. Pour gravy over patties in crockpot. Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours

  13. Serve with rice or mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
