This past Thursday, my son turned seven years old.  He had spent the night at his grandparent’s house which allowed me to get ready to make his cake.  He went out for a birthday breakfast and then spent the rest of the day just hanging out with Grandpa.

Everyone was supposed to come to our house for a birthday cake party in the evening. When they arrived, we gave John his birthday present. It was a shiny new bike.
John was rolling his bike out to the front porch posing for pictures for Grandma when I quickly ran inside to get my camera. Before I knew it, John was crying and holding his eye.  He had tried to take the bike down the three porch stairs and he had fallen on top of the bike. He was screaming and holding his eye and it was bleeding.
To make a long story short, John spent three hours in the emergency room at Albany Medical Center where he underwent minor surgery to repair his torn tear duct in his upper eye lid.
This is what he looked like about ten minutes after the procedure.

He did such a great job holding still for the doctors and I am so proud of him.  It was a really long day for him and when we got home, he just crashed on the couch and was ready for bed. What a very memorable way to spend his seventh birthday!
