pizza

When I was twelve or thirteen years old, I attended a 4-H cooking class on yeast dough and bread.  The recipe that I was given has been a staple for my family. It is so easy to make and taste so good.  It is versatile enough that you can use it for so many different recipes

I originally learned to make this by hand, but now I usually make the dough in my bread machine.  It saves me a lot of time and it comes out just as good.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup “warm and friendly” water (90-100F)
  • 2 tsp. instant dry yeast
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil (I use Watkins Garlic and Parsley Grapeseed Oil)
  • 3-4½ cups flour (You can mix wheat and white for a healthier crust)
  • *Note: If you don’t have garlic oil, you can use garlic powder in its place. I also add fresh herbs to my dough in the summer and in the winter I use Watkins Pasta and Pizza Seasoning Grinder.
Instructions
  1. Toss everything into the bread machine, turn it onto the dough setting and let it run. I suggest that you start with the three cups of flour and let it mix up. If the dough is still sticky then start to add more flour a little bit at a time until the dough is soft, but not sticky.
  2. My bread machine’s dough cycle is 1hr 30min. If you are making this by hand, allow the dough to rise until double before using it.
  3. For pizza, bake in preheated 450F oven for 10-15 minutes or until cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
  4. For bread sticks, bake in preheated 400F oven for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
