Old Fashion Meringue Cake
1/2 cup Crisco or butter
1/2 cup sugar
4 egg yolks
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla

Cream butter and sugar until blended. Add egg yolks and vanilla.
Add milk, flour and baking powder. Stir well. It should look smooth when you are finished.
Pour batter into a greased, 9×9 pan.
Bake in pre-heated 350F oven for approx. 20 minute or until center is springy and cake is golden.
While cake is baking, take 4 egg whites, 1/4 tsp cream of tarter and 1/2 tsp vanilla and place them into a bowl.  With electric mixer/beater, mix until soft peaks have begun to form. Slowly add 6 Tbsp of sugar. Continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
Spread over hot, baked cake making sure you push the meringue completely to all sides of your baking dish.
Return to hot oven and bake for about 10 minutes longer or until meringue is golden brown. Remove from oven and cool.
The cake comes out like a pound cake and is wonderful. Hope you enjoy the recipe!

  1. Beautiful job! I will now have to try this recipe. BTW- Since I am coming to visit you on Monday, do you know anyone who sells farm fresh eggs that I could purchase some from on Monday? They sure would make this meringue cake taste fabulous.
